Here is another shot of the interior if you look all the way to the other side of the cab you can see that the windows do not roll up but slide up and down.

The side door panels are also pinstriped.

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't an old road sign behind these engine turned door panels. Bob Burns states in one of his articles about Dutch.

" I had a fiberglass CORD in 1970. It burned up
so I re-designed it, and DUTCH did his thing to it. One of the crowning touches to this car was a huge engine turned dash panel he made out of an old stop sign. He left the STOP part on the back and engine turned the opposite side. He thought it would be really funny if some guy restoring the car in the future, got up behind the dash and saw "STOP!" ."

The infamous "Tube Le Dump".  This accessory sits right In front of the passenger's seat and adorns a hinged brass-topped tube with the words "Tube Le Dump" engraved on it. Dutch designed this tube for a 1966 Olds Toronado that he used to drive.

The "Tube Le Dump" is a beer can ejector !

When opened the tube lead to the road below, so Von Dutch could get rid of empties without having to toss them out the window while driving. Simply Amazing !!!!!

The passenger's seat is a Work/Storage box and the back is a piece of plywood on
a hinge. We figure that the Holes in the back of the seat were cup holders for Dutch's paint because there is tell tail signs of it's use by the spatter of of color.

What's inside the work box seat.

001alive01.gif (94827 bytes) "I can't overemphasize the influence Von Dutch had on young blue-collar America. He was a spiritual God he seemed to add a soul to nuts and bolts, a spirit to machinery as it were, that no mere engineer could do. And when he put striping brush to sheet metal well, it gave the vehicle a karma all its own; it came alive!"      Robert Williams

New for 2005!

Von Dutch: The Art, The Myth, The Legend
by Pat Ganahl
Von Dutch is one of the most interesting characters in hot rod and popular culture history. Considered the founder of “modern” pinstriping, he was a prominent character in many of the rodding magazines of the late ‘50s, and his fame endured long after he apparently tired of it. Besides being a striper, he was a gifted artist, machinist, and gun- and knife-smith.

Using stories and quotes culled from interviews, vintage photos, and images of the art and other works he left behind, this book chronicles Kenneth Howard’s life from pinstriping beatnik to bus-dwelling hermit. Where it can, this book sets the record straight on Von Dutch the man, but in many cases conflicting stories will serve to illustrate the contrary, colorful, and sometimes difficult nature of Von Dutch the legend. $ 39.95 Call (800) 880-6567 to place an order.

" At this time we would like to thank and Acknowledge those who have been very instrumental in the preservation of Von Dutch's life story and the continued influence on the American Kustom Kulture. Book mark this page and visit those that are listed that have websites".
